Message from Philip Hansen, Phil's Café:
It is with great joy that I welcome you to "A Tour of Baroque Italy: Music and Art" in partnership with the CPO, Glenbow Museum of Art, and Leighton Art Centre. Vital to the Phil's Café mission (Music For Good) is that we partner with the worthiest organizations in our community for events that serve to highlight and enhance their own valuable work. Since 2010 we have performed to the good of Chidren's Hospital, Inn from the Cold, MEOW Foundation, and several more.
Music of the Baroque has stood the test of time perhaps more than any other. My own special pleasure in performing baroque music is that I often play the role of continuo, which literally helps to "continue, rhyhmically and harmonically speaking, the melody that soars above.
My colleagues first gathered with me last summer at the Discovery Islands Festival of Chamber Music, where we performed the same program. It is an enormous pleasure to be with them again here in Calgary for this tribute to the Italian Baroque.
